SDP Noticias is a digital only, Mexican news media website, it is currently ranked by The Economist & Comscore as Mexico’s second most read native digital news publication with approximately 10M unique monthly users (excluding large volumes of traffic from Latin & North America).

It’s sister publication El Deforma is currently ranked in third place within the same analytics reports with approximately 8M monthly unique users, making Grupo SDP one of the most influential digital media groups in Mexico, with particular domination in mobile news content consumption (Factual, Opinion, and Satirical).

Brief

Disruptable has collaborated in various ways with SDP since 2008, our brief was to provide strategic advice to the owner as the platform grew and evolved from being a blog in 2006 of the former President of Mexico (2018 to 2024), to becoming a legitimate new media publication. More info >

We were to support website development/configuration and provide insights into content, marketing, and channel trends that could be utilised to usurp traditional media, growing the business over and above average traffic growth rates during the digital revolution in Mexico to build a national competitive position.

Work Insight

This was very much a personal advisory role that we played, early on we worked with the technical team on optimising the site for organic search alongside news site submissions, we supported the development team when looking to build a new branded presence, followed by what channels to employ (including social media) for improved distribution and reach of content.

Alongside providing support and advice, we collaborated on third party projects of mutual interest, supporting our clients and their clients in generating exposure of their brands, managing public themes, and generating interest in negative issues the clients were facing as part of brand defence projects in times of crisis.

Value generated

Whilst it must be acknowledged that the SDP team were completely responsible for their own success, ultimately Disputable provided direction in areas that would lead to media disruption and innovation underpinning the overall business objective of rapid growth.

SDP were not only the first Mexican media outlet to capitalise on news distribution via Facebook back in 2008, they were one of the first in the world, we redirected their attention away from other social networks at an important stage in their growth, when the competition were looking the other way, this ultimately lead to a leapfrogging scenario of the grandest scale.
